Jarmeika L. Taylor

Jarmeika L. Taylor is an attorney, U.S. Army National Guard Veteran, and community advocate whose career has been grounded in service, leadership, and expanding access to resources for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

Jarmeika served for more than a decade in the Army National Guard, including leadership roles as a Retention NCO and Fuel Section Sergeant. Her military service included a deployment to Iraq and participation in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Her experiences in the military shaped her commitment to service, accountability, resilience, and the belief that strong communities are built by people willing to show up for one another.

After witnessing fellow Veterans encounter legal and financial challenges after returning home, Jarmeika pursued a career in law. She earned her Juris Doctor from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2019, where she focused extensively on Veterans' legal issues through the Veterans' Legal Assistance Program. She also holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources from Indiana Institute of Technology.

A significant part of Jarmeika's legal career has been dedicated to serving people who face barriers to accessing legal assistance and other critical resources. At Indiana Legal Services, she provided legal guidance in matters involving housing, guardianship, and specialized driving privileges and organized and directed landlord-tenant pro se clinics designed to help individuals better understand and navigate the legal system. She also participated in community events serving Veterans and providing practical legal information to community members.

Her commitment to legal aid began during law school and continued through additional public-interest and experiences with various legal aid organizations. Through these organizations, she conducted client intake, researched legal issues, reviewed records, prepared legal documents, and supported individuals navigating complicated circumstances.

Jarmeika's broader public-service experience includes representing Veterans in VA benefits matters, advocating for Veterans seeking discharge upgrades, assisting individuals experiencing housing instability, and serving as an Attorney-Advisor with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Board of Veterans' Appeals. These experiences have given her a firsthand understanding of how difficult it can be for people to access systems, services, and resources that are essential to their well-being.

Beyond her legal experience, Jarmeika brings a strong background in organizational leadership, operations, team development, and problem-solving. Her military leadership and professional experience have taught her the importance of responsible stewardship, clear communication, collaboration, and building systems that allow people and organizations to serve others effectively.

Jarmeika is licensed to practice law in Indiana and is passionate about supporting organizations that address practical needs while preserving the dignity of the people they serve. She is honored to support Indy Hygiene Hub and its mission to provide meaningful resources to individuals and families facing challenges, affirm dignity, and inspire hope.
